A round oak top sits above a drum of vertical slats, and the gaps between them do the work — light and air get in, the animal inside stays half-hidden, and from across the room the whole thing simply looks like a well-made side table. The slatted rhythm gives it the warmth of a Scandinavian piece rather than the look of a crate.
Pulled up beside an armchair it holds a drink and a book at the usual height, while the dog settles underneath in the same conversation. Nothing about it needs apologising for or hiding.
