The base twists as it rises, and the two colours travel with it — a cobalt swirl running through white ceramic , thicker in some passages than others, so the depth of blue shifts as you move around it. Being ceramic, it also picks up whatever light is in the room and holds it.
A straight cream drum shade sits above, deliberately plain, and lets the base do the talking. Light through the drum falls soft and downward onto the surface below, which is why this works best on a dark side table where the base can catch a reflection.
