A long white seat that appears to float clear of its own base.
The black plinth is set well in from the ends, so the upholstered pad runs out past it in both directions and the bench reads as a cantilever rather than a box. A slim brass rail follows the line of the base, a single warm stroke against the black — the only ornament on an otherwise severe piece.
The proportions are formal, which is what makes it work in an entrance hall, a dressing room, or across the foot of a large bed. It wants length and a clear wall behind it; in a cramped space the overhang stops making sense.
